Collection Requirements

Urine specimen must be pretreated prior to processing on analyzer. 20 mL of 6N HCL may be added to the 24 hr container prior to collection. Non-preserved collections may be acidified prior to processing as follows:  Thoroughly mix entire sample and remove 5ml aliquot. Add 100ul of 6 N HCLand mix thoroughly. Verify the specimen pH if 1.5 to 5.0 and adjust, if necessary.               Boric Acid:  Not Acceptable             No preservative: Not             Ideally, acid should be added prior to collection and not added after              5ml aliquot from container               Instructions:             Instruct the patient to void at the beginning of the collection period and discard the specimen.                       Then collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the collection period.                   Refigerate the specimen during collection.  Record the date and time the collection started and               the date and time the collection finished
