Collection Requirements

Collect: 10.0ml(5min) Random or Timed Urine 

Instruction: Random or timed urine acceptable. After collection, can add 6N HCL to obtain ph<3 or if no preservative, ship frozen if ph<6

PRESERVED URINE- ambient is unacceptable, 30 days refrigerated, 60 days frozen
UNPRESERVED- ambient is unacceptable, 7 days refrigerated, 60 days frozen
Transport: Frozen


Frequency: Monday-Friday; TAT 4 days


Comments: It is preferable for the patient to be off medications for a minimum of 18- 24 hours prior to collection. However, common antihypertensives (diuretics, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, alpha and beta blockers) cause minimal or no interference. Patient should avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco and strenuous exercise for 8-12 hours prior to collection.
