Collection Requirements

Collection Container/Tube: Light Green (Mint Top) Lithium Heparin Tube
Collection Volume: 0.5 mL Plasma    Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL Plasma
Collection Instructions:
1.    Centrifuge the specimen and aliquot the plasma into a plastic aliquot tube.
2.    Transport the specimen at room temperature.
3.    Deliver the specimen to the laboratory STAT for immediate shipment to SUNY Upstate.
 

Shipping and Handling Instructions


Instructions: Complete the Syracuse requisition, package the specimen, and contact the SUNY Upstate laboratory courier for STAT pickup.

Rejection Criteria: Insufficient specimen volume
Specimen Stability

  • Room Temperature (15-25°C): 8 hours (capped)
  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 hours (capped)
  •  Frozen (-20°C): Up to 4 weeks (capped)
  • Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles

Transport: Ambient (room temperature)
Turnaround Time

  • STAT: 90 minutes from receipt at SUNY Upstate
  • Routine: 4 hours from receipt at SUNY Upstate

Testing Schedule: Daily, 7 days per week.
